We recently made a blog post about all of the wonderful seafood restaurants on the West side of the beach, near Calypso. But with the recent addition of Holiday House to our property listings, we decided to put together another list for restaurants on the East side of the beach, closer to Thomas Drive!
Located right on the water, Captain Anderson’s offers a dining experience you’ll remember. It’s a family owned restaurant, which means you’re supporting the local businesses when you dine there. You can sit outside with a view of the bay and enjoy wonderful seafood options like Fresh Gulf Shrimp and Jumbo Lump Crab Meat au Gratin or Oven Broiled South African Lobster Tails. Captain Anderson’s has also been awarded the title of “Best Seafood Restaurant” by Southern Living Magazine.
If you’re looking for a formal location to celebrate a special event or a luxurious night out, Firefly is the place to go. Classified as “casual fine dining,” Firefly offers a romantic and elegant atmosphere to guests on the East end of the beach, with delicious menu items from seafood and a decadent filet to sushi. They have an award-winning chef and once you taste the food, you’ll know why. I highly recommend the famous She Crab soup; it is rich and creamy and, paired with the bread, makes a fantastic meal.
Hunt’s has made a name for itself in the area, celebrating 50 years since its grand opening. True to its name, Hunt’s Oyster Bar is known for its fresh oysters; you can dine-in or get them to go by the bags and buckets. If you’re not into oysters, the restaurant also offers plenty of other seafood options including crab cakes, fish, grilled shrimp, and even gator. Their homemade soups and desserts are not to be missed! If you don’t have room for dessert while you’re there, get it to go!
If you’re on the lookout for a traditional southern meal, Dee’s Hang Out is known for its jambalaya. They have recipes, a chicken and sausage jambalaya and a shrimp and sausage jambalaya. They also have a wonderful fried catfish! The restaurant is located in the Shoppes at Edgewater, so once you finish your meal, you can peruse the area for some souvenirs and fun shopping.
Specializing in seafood, J Michael’s offers a unique twist: they’ll cook your own catches. If you have a good catch from your day at the pier, you can bring it into J Michael’s and they’ll cook it up for you. They also have daily offerings such as raw oysters, seafood pasta, and a variety of sandwiches. What a perfect plan to end your day on the water!
